Cullen Kilshaw and Hogg & Thorburn are hosting a seminar on the Buy to Let market.  We will take a look at recent legal changes to residential tenancies and discuss the taxation of rental income and tax changes coming into effect from the start of the next fiscal year.  Presentations will be followed by a question and answer session for you to talk to the experts and ask questions or discuss specific concerns.

Presentation by Ross Kilshaw, Partner, Cullen Kilshaw
Ross Kilshaw will discuss recent changes to the law around residential tenancies.  He will look at the differences between the old Short Assured Tenancies and the new more tenant friendly Private Residential Tenancies.  He will also look at the pitfalls around bringing a tenancy to an end, notice periods, the Housing and Property First-Tier Tribunals who now adjudicate on these matters, and some other points of interest to landlords.

Presentation by Kenny Adamson, Tax Partner, Hogg & Thorburn
Kenny Adamson will discuss the taxation of rental income.  He will look at the treatment of expenses for both Income & Capital Gains Tax purposes.  In addition, he will also look at the implications of the recent Capital Gains changes to main residence relief, focusing on the changes to the valuable relief known as lettings exemption.  Finally, he will look at the major changes to the payment date of Capital Gains Tax when a property is sold, as from 6 April 2020.
