Burning wood releases the CO2 that trees have absorbed during their lifetime, which is a carbon neutral process. Changing from a fossil fuelled heating system to a biomass system can save the production of many tonnes of CO2 a year. And while the price of fossil fuels will almost certainly continue to escalate as they come from a finite resource, wood is a renewable resource and as such the price of logs, chips and pellets is likely to remain stable.

Biomass central heating is not only better for the planet, it's also better for your budget and should considerably reduce your heating bills.

On an ongoing basis Border Eco Systems, the supplier of the biomass heating system, will supply the wood pellets and provide a maintenance contract for the heating system. Each property is fitted with a programmable central heating clock and a Smart meter, which is read every three months, and of course, you only pay for the fuel you use.

Ecological Benefits

All nine houses at The Pleasants are heated by a communal biomass heating system combined with solar panels fitted to individual roofs. This means that for years to come these houses will be economically and ecologically sound to heat. In fact they will be almost entirely insulated from the volatile fossil fuel markets, the prices of which are only going in one direction in the long term - up!

Biomass is a wood fuel generally in the form of wood pellets, chips or logs that are continuously and automatically fed (no stoking required!) into a high capacity boiler housed on-site in a purpose-built boiler house/wood store.

Solar Panels & Top Quality Insulation

Every house also features solar panels on the roof, which use solar energy from the sun to provide up to 70% of your family's hot water. Solar can be used on its own or with conventional heating. Having generated low cost heating and power it's vital to prevent it escaping, which is why these houses have top quality insulation and double-glazing.
