Cullen Kilshaw and Stevenson & Johnstone to merge

Cullen Kilshaw, Solicitors and Estate Agents are pleased to announce the assimilation of the long-established law firm of Stevenson and Johnstone into our legal and estate agency business. Effective from 1 October, our merged organisations will bring together our complementary strengths and ensure the continued delivery of excellent service and client care to the people of Langholm and surrounding communities. The merger will bring our business to 10 legal offices across the Scottish Borders from Peebles in the west over to Kelso in the east, and now to Langholm in Dumfries and Galloway.

Stevenson and Johnstone has a long history in the town dating from the 1960s when Richard ‘Dick’ Hill established the legal practice that is today managed by his son Kenneth Hill. The practice is actively involved in the Langholm community and will continue to be so. Kenneth and his legal support team will transfer to Cullen Kilshaw and continue to practise from their existing offices in Langholm.

Commenting on the merger, Kenneth said: “I am delighted that Stevenson and Johnstone will be joining the Cullen Kilshaw network. The team here in Langholm along with our colleagues across the Scottish Borders will continue to provide a full range of legal and estate agency services, and I have every confidence that the interest of our existing clients and future clients will be very well looked after.”

“Cullen Kilshaw is by far the largest combined estate agency and legal firm in the area, providing advice to clients day in and day out on the preparation of wills, Powers of Attorney, family law and all aspects of commercial and residential estate agency and conveyancing. Having access to this expanded network through Cullen Kilshaw’s cloud based case management platform and video consultations will only enhance the services which will be available locally and I am excited about the benefits that will bring to our clients and the local area.”

David Kilshaw, founding partner of Cullen Kilshaw is looking forward to the merger.

“We are delighted to welcome the entire team of Stevenson and Johnstone and their clients into Cullen Kilshaw. Stevenson and Johnstone’s legal offering and their commitment to serving and championing their local communities fits perfectly with Cullen Kilshaw. We will continue to look after the affairs of all clients as we forge new working relationships and grow Cullen Kilshaw’s client base in the towns of Langholm, Newcastleton and the surrounding area.”

“Kenneth and his team bring a breadth of skills and experience and will take our combined workforce to 82 people across 10 offices, including 13 solicitors and 4 trainee solicitors. We are a full service law firm committed to providing excellent client service, delivered locally at a competitive cost. Our continuous investment in people and digital technology ensures that our clients and their needs are placed firmly at the heart of our business. Our combined property, court, family law, commercial and executry departments are fully equipped and stand ready to assist the people of the Scottish Borders and Dumfries and Galloway.”
